Spanish legend to coach in the A-League?

Former Real Madrid star Fernando Hierro has set his sights on coaching in the Hyundai A-League, according to media reports.

SBS media has reported that Hierro, who was capped 89 times by Spain, has held informal talks with multiple clubs about a deal, which would also see fellow Spanish star Raul Gonlazes join his countryman at the club as a marquee player.

Speaking to SBS, Hierro-s Australian based manager Ismail Ozsoy spoke with optimism about the possibility of the move.

“Hierro’s people in Spain have authorised me to find him a club in Australia,” said Melbourne-based Elite Management Group director Ismail Ozsoy.

“He is very keen to come out here.

“He has all the coaching licences and a big part of what he wants to bring to Australia is a marquee player.

“It is very well known that he is a personal friend of former Madrid and Spain team-mate Raul, who is 36.

“Raul’s contract at Al-Sadd in Qatar ends in October so both Hierro and the player would be available for the next A-League.

In the interview, Ozsoy said Hierro had a set backroom staff structure already in mind, that would include two assistant coaches, while also stating money was not a factor.

“He will also be having two assistant coaches, one of them being Juan Carlos Martinez who was part of the national team set-up in,” Ozsoy said.

“Money will not be an issue and I can tell you that the whole world would know about this if Hierro came to Australia.”
