Isuzu UTE A-League’s all-time leading goalscorer joins familiar faces at new home abroad

It's been another massive week in the Isuzu UTE A-League and Liberty A-League with goalkeepers on the move and a few international players set to ply their trade on our shores for the upcoming season.

Reigning Indian Super League (ISL) Shield winners Mohun Bagan Super Giant have signed A-Leagues legend Jamie Maclaren.

Maclaren – the all-time leading goalscorer in Isuzu UTE A-League history – has signed a four-year deal with the Indian side following the expiry of his Melbourne City contract.

The transfer, which has made waves in India, sees the Socceroos forward link up with some familiar faces at Mohun.

Maclaren will joins former Brisbane Roar teammate Dimitri Petratos, ex-Central Coast Mariners star Jason Cummings and Tom Aldred following his off-season arrival from the Roar.

“I really cannot wait to get over to Kolkata and meet all the fans, new teammates and friends I’ve played with before,” Maclaren said.

“It’s going to be a super exciting season.”

After joining City in January 2019 from German club SV Darmstadt 98, Maclaren went on to achieve remarkable success in his five-and-a-half-year stint at the club, but is set to depart when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Maclaren scored an incredible 115 goals in 163 appearances during his spell at City, a tally crucial in helping the club win three Premierships and a Championship during that period.

The 30-year-old is the only player to have scored 100 or more goals for a single club in Isuzu UTE A-League history.

Maclaren won four consecutive Golden Boots during that time and has also cemented his place in Australian Football history after surpassing Besart Berisha as the Isuzu UTE A-League’s greatest ever goalscorer, a total that currently stands at 154 goals.
