Sydney FC coach Steve Corica says defender Rhyan Grant is a chance to feature in Sunday’s A-League Men clash against Wellington.
The Socceroos fullback missed last weekend’s loss to Central Coast after returning a positive COVID test, with Grant saying the virus had left him lethargic, without a sense of taste or smell and a mild headache.
Grant was released from home isolation on Thursday and has rejoined training with Corica indicating the 30-year-old may feature against the Phoenix at Jubilee Stadium.
“There’s a good chance he’ll be involved this weekend,” Corica said.
“He’s been cleared to play. He’s had all the tests done that he needed to do.
“He’s come back quite fresh actually. It’s a good sign for him.”
Sydney are also in action in midweek when they host Brisbane Roar in the FFA Cup quarter-finals.
The defeat to the Mariners has left the powerhouse club second-last on the ladder with just two points from their first four matches.
It’s the Sky Blues’ worst start to a campaign in a decade after they went winless in the first 10 matches of the 2010-11 season.
Corica says while no-one at the club is happy with their form, he’s not hitting the panic button heading into the clash with former teammate Ufuk Talay’s Phoenix.
“It’s business as usual but it is different for us because the boys are normally used to being further forward and further up the top of the of the table,” he said.
“We’re all in it together.
“We haven’t had the best of starts, it’s well known, but it’s what we do from here really and showing what kind of character that we have in the change room to get us out of this.”
