Socceroo extends deal at Perth Glory

Perth Glory have announced a contract extension for home-grown Socceroo Josh Risdon ensuring the talented Bunbury born defender stays in WA until the end of the 2016/17 Hyundai A-League season.

Risdon’s one-year deal means the 23-year old will spend a seventh season with Perth Glory FC, since making his Hyundai A-League debut in the 2010/11 season.

“I’m very happy to be staying with the club and it’s capped off a great year for me already” Risdon said.

“Right now my focus is to be playing well and to be playing regularly. Playing for my home-town team ticks all those boxes”.

Coach Kenny Lowe was delighted that Risdon was staying on for another year.

“I’ve known Rizzo for a long time and I’m very happy he’s staying with us for a bit longer” Lowe said.

“He’s an important part of what we want to do and it will help us drive forward with the goals we’ve set”.

Perth Glory right back Josh Risdon takes a throw-in.

Risdon, considered to be the best right back in the country, will be the ninth Western Australian born or raised player who will don the Glory jersey next season.

His contract extension comes on the back of his Socceroos call up for this month’s World Cup Qualifiers against Tajikistan and Jordan and last week he was crowned the South Western Times Sports Star of the year.

Currently he is the fourth most capped Glory player in A-League history and has captained the team on game-day for nine matches this season.

Risdon could lead the team out again on Saturday night when Glory hosts Central Coast at nib Stadium.

A win against the tenth placed Mariners will help Glory cement its spot in the top six.

Kick-off is at 6.40pm and tickets can be bought HERE
