Soaring Jets: how Newcastle’s form compares to previous seasons

They have been the surprise packets of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season, setting the competition alight with their eye-catching performances and big wins.

Ernie Merrick has done a great job at Newcastle Jets to have them in a strong position heading into the second half of the season.

After 12 games of the campaign, they sit second on 26 points with eight wins and two draws, and are the league’s highest scorers with 29 goals.

They are stats that make for some pretty impressive reason for the Hunter faithful.

So how do they compare with the last few years?

If you compare the Jets’ form to the same stage last season, well it’s almost chalk and cheese.

After 12 rounds of the 2016/17 Season, Mark Jones’ Jets had won just three games, losing five, while their goal difference was in the negative with 15 goals for and 18 against.

It was pretty similar the season before with exactly the same win-loss record, while they had managed to score only nine goals from 12 matches.

And as you can see from our table below, this season is easily Newcastle’s best after 12 games.

Can Merrick’s men transfer that into some silverware come the end of the campaign? Time will tell.
