Competition leaders Sydney FC have pulled off a significant coup after securing former Qantas Socceroos and English Premier League defender Hayden Foxe on a short-term six-week contract.

Foxe passed a series of fitness and medical tests on Thursday morning and will be eligible to play for the Sky Blues against his former club Perth Glory on Sunday.

“Hayden is an absolute professional,” assistant coach Tony Popovic said.

“He has represented the Socceroos and played in the English Premier League so he brings a wealth of knowledge to the group.”

“We have had a few injuries in the last few weeks, especially in our defensive ranks, so Hayden provides us with another body and a lot of experience.”

Foxe represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

He has also played for Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Leeds United in the English Premier League and spent two seasons with Perth Glory between 2007 and 2009.

Meanwhile, defender Sebastian Ryall will miss six weeks after straining the medial ligaments in his left knee at training on Wednesday.

Vitezslav Lavicka’s men travel to Perth on Friday evening ahead of their clash against the Glory on Sunday at ME Bank Stadium.
