Sydney FC boss Graham Arnold says Saturday night’s deflating 3-2 defeat away to Brisbane Roar is a snapshot of his side’s shortcomings this season.
The visitors missed a multitude of opportunities before eventually throwing away what would have been a hard-earned and potentially season-saving point.
“I thought we were the better team tonight. We had more chances – enough chances to win two games,” Arnold said.

“We’ve had 10 draws this year. That’s killed us. In probably seven of those 10 draws we should have won.
“Those tight games haven’t gone our way.
“We haven’t punished teams when we’ve had the opportunity. We should have buried Brisbane tonight.”
The last-gasp defeat leaves Sydney all but out of the race for Finals Series spots just 12 months after reaching the Grand Final.
Despite the setbacks, Arnold reiterated his determination to lead the Sky Blues back to the top.
“I’m going through a period I’ve never been through as a coach and I’m enjoying it more than ever,” he said.
“I’m learning more about myself, I’m learning more about the challenges of being a coach, I’m learning more about the players that I’ve got and the character of them.
“I’ve got the vision and I can see where we need to fix things at this club. I’m always up for a challenge, I’m always up for a fight and I’ll keep fighting.”
