Sky Blues hit by MRP

Sydney FC have been dealt a double blow by the Match Review Panel with Terry McFlynn and Zeljko Kalac both given suspensions.

Sydney FC have been dealt a double blow by the Match Review Panel with skipper Terry McFlynn and goalkeeping coach Zeljko Kalac both given suspensions following incidents in the round 19 game against Newcastle.

McFlynn was shown a direct red card for a handball on the line, which led to the Jets leveling the scores at 2-2 from the penalty spot. The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) ruled McFlynn will serve the minimum sanction of a one-match ban.

Kalac was sent to the stands following an altercation with a match official just before half-time, after reviewing the incident, the MRP ruled the goalkeeping coach will be banished from the sidelines for three games.

These top off a bad day for Sydney FC, following Joel Griffiths-s three-match ban for abusing an assistant referee in te Australia Day game against Melbourne Victory.

The MRP rulings are as follows:
1. The incident involving Terry McFlynn (Sydney FC) in or around the 88th minute of Sydney FC-s match against Newcastle Jets FC on Saturday afternoon. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as the Player was issued with a direct red card. The MRP confirmed that Terry McFlynn will serve the Minimum Sanction of one (1) match, being the Mandatory Match Suspension; and

2. The incident involving Zeljko Kalac (Sydney FC) in or around the 45th minute of Sydney FC-s match against Newcastle Jets FC on Saturday afternoon. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as the Team Official was expelled from the field of play, its surrounds and the Technical Area.

The MRP proposed a sanction of the Mandatory Match Suspension plus two additional matches for the offence of “Use of offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures against a match official”. Under the A-League Disciplinary Regulations, the Team Official or the Club may refer the matter to the Disciplinary Committee for hearing and Determination of the sole question of what additional sanction should be imposed (above the Mandatory Match Suspension which must be served).

The Team Official or the Club has until 12:00pm Tuesday, 5 February 2013 to advise whether they wish to appeal the additional two match suspension.
