Sky Blues appoint new goalkeeping coach

Sydney FC has confirmed that experienced mentor John Crawley has joined the club as its new goalkeeping coach.

The 43 year old has a long standing relationship with Sky Blues Head Coach Graham Arnold having spent three seasons together at the Central Coast Mariners.

“I am delighted to be joining Sydney FC and to be working with Arnie once again,” Crawley said.

“The club had an excellent season under his guidance last year and I’m very excited to see what we can go on to achieve both in the Hyundai A-League and in Asia this year.

“We have two very good keepers on the books in Vedran Janjetovic and Anthony Bouzanis and I look forward to helping them go on to get even better.”

Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold believes the club has signed Australia’s foremost goalkeeper coach.

“John Crawley is one of the best, if not the best goalkeeper coach in the country,” he said.

“His record speaks for itself in the keepers he has developed, including Danny Vukovic, Mat Ryan, Adam Federici and Andrew Redmayne.

“He brings a wealth of knowledge and ten years Hyundai A-League experience to the role.

“I am looking forward to seeing how Vedran and Anthony develop under his tuition and for them to be open minded to experiencing new goalkeeping methods.

“Obviously I’ve worked with him before, we had a great relationship and I look forward to working with him again.”

Crawley will begin his new role when the players return to training later next week.
