Skipper Bridge slams Wanderers’ display: ‘
Western Sydney Wanderers skipper Mark Bridge has slammed his team after their 4-0 loss to Newcastle Jets on Friday night.
The Wanderers were never in the contest, the Jets running over the top of Josep Gombau’s side to register an excellent win in front of a large crowd at McDonald Jones Stadium.
After the game Bridge pulled no punches when asked by Fox Sports what he thought of his team’s performance.
“It just wasn’t good enough,” he said.
“Central Coast weren’t good last week [in the WSW win] and it shows when we come up with a compact solid team, we get punished.
“You can see, it’s a bit all over the shop at the moment,” he said when asked about the new era under Josep Gombau.
“Everyone’s trying to learn a new way and in the second half we played our old formation, so there’s no excuse.
“The boys looked flat. It looks slow, there’s no intensity.
“It’s hard to put my finger on it but it’s terrible. I can’t remember… in three weeks this team has conceded nine goals.
“It’s not a championship winning team if you concede that many goals in three weeks.
“It comes down to individuals as well. You have to want to be there. You have to want the team to get better.
“It was very bad.”
