Former Dutch international Victor Sikora will play in the Hyundai A-League next season after agreeing to a one-year deal with Perth Glory.

Sikora, who played for Holland six times, played in Perth’s final five matches this season after joining the club as an injury replacement and impressed coach Dave Mitchell enough to earn a permanent spot in its squad.

“Victor came in and immediately clicked with the team and I think everyone could see that he is a good player,” Mitchell said.

“I’m confident Victor is going to add value to our squad next year and can be a real leader on the park.”

The 30-year-old brings a wealth of experience having played with Dutch giant Ajax Amsterdam and has featured in two European Champions League campaigns.

Sikora is currently in the Netherlands and training with his former club Go Ahead Eagles but will return to Western Australia in April to start pre-season training with the Glory.

“Victor is a good age, he’s fit and cares about Perth Glory and winning football matches. He loves the city, feels people here are very friendly and is eager to come back and achieve our aim of finals football,” Mitchell said.

“He is a real professional and doesn’t like just sitting idle. Victor sets very high standards and I’d expect him to raise the bar in our pre-season and I’m confident you’ll see an even better player and a significant contributor for our club.”

Perth now has nine contracted players for next season and is in negotiations with several more players to add to the club-s squad and Mitchell believes the club is heading in the right direction.

“There are a lot of things happening behind the scenes that people might not be aware of but I can assure you that we are doing all the hard yards now which will give us the jump start when players become available to move in and grab them,’ he said.
