Signing news: Young gun Armiento joins Perth Glory

Perth Glory’s impressive mid-season signing spree has continued with confirmation former Adelaide United playmaker Carlo Armiento has joined the club.

The 20-year-old, who cut ties with the Reds in December, has joined Glory for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season.

As well as being available to play in the Hyundai A-League, Armiento is also part of Glory’s squad for their stint in the AFC Champions League.

“I’m really looking forward to playing with the Premiers of Australia,” Armiento told Glory’s official website.

“Tony Popovic is a very good coach and the boys haven’t lost for a while now, so hopefully I can contribute in whatever way I’m required to.

“Being involved in the AFC Champions League, if selected, is also something very exciting.

“There are a number of Adelaide boys in the Glory squad, like Daniel Margush, Vinnie Lia and Tarek Elrich, so I’m looking forward to getting back out on the track again with them.”

Armiento is Glory’s fourth acquisition in recent weeks, joining former Adelaide United teammates Lia and Margush, as well as former Western Sydney Wanderers defender Elrich.

Born in South Australia, Armiento rose to prominence in the Reds youth team, while he made five senior appearances for the club in 2018/9.

But with chances limited under Gertjan Verbeek, Armiento decided to part ways with Adelaide and Glory jumped at the chance to sign the talented youngster.

“Carlo is a talented young player that we have been tracking for some time,” Glory Football Director Jacob Burns said.

“He’s a versatile, left-footed attacker who is comfortable on the ball and can play on either side of the pitch.

“We’re extremely pleased to have him on board and look forward to seeing him make his mark during what is a crucial time for the club as we strive to balance up the demands of playing in two competitions.”

Glory are next in action on Friday night when they host Wellington Phoenix at HBF Park, with the match kicking off at 6.45pm local time (9.45 AEDT).
