The signing of Tony Popovic as Perth Glory’s new coach convinced Brandon Wilson to commit his future to the club.
Wilson, 21, signed a new two-year deal with the Glory on Tuesday, keeping him in the west until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season.
It’s understood the all-action midfielder had interest from a number of other Hyundai A-League clubs but decided to stay due to the direction of the club under Popovic.
“The biggest thing for me was Popovic signing on. I spoke with him and he said he wants me at the club, he wants to teach me and improve my game, which was great to hear,” Wilson said.

“Popovic’s understanding of the game is exceptional, he’s very supportive of young players as well, which is massive.
“Another major factor for me is the fans, they’re unreal every week and it’s always great to play in front of them.
“I think with a coach like Popovic and the team we have here, we should be looking to win silverware that should be the goal for everybody at the club.”
Wilson, who was born in Botswana, has made 37 appearances for Glory in the Hyundai A-League after joining the club from Burnley in 2016.
An Australian under-23 international, Wilson is the second player to re-sign with the club’s since Popovic’s appointment, joining Spanish playmaker Diego Castro.

“It’s a great move by the club to secure his signature as he’s shown talent and potential which I believe will continue to develop in the next few seasons with us at Glory,” Glory Football Director Jacob Burns said of Wilson.
“Wilson is one of a number of young fantastic Perth players with exciting futures in front. I think they will all relish working under Popovic.”
Glory is expected to announce more signings for next season in coming days.
