Signing news: Wanderers snap up experienced Swiss goalkeeper

Western Sydney Wanderers have announced the signing of experienced Swiss goalkeeper Daniel Lopar on a one-year deal.

The 34-year-old joins the Wanderers after 13 years at Swiss Super League side St. Gallen, where he made 299 competitive appearances.

The veteran shot-stopper began his career with nearby FC Wil in 2003 and the switch to the Hyundai A-League marks his first spell abroad.

Lopar said he was excited to land Down Under and be part of the Wanderers family.

“I’m very happy to be part of the Western Sydney Wanderers. I have heard and seen that their fans are amazing and very enthusiastic,” Lopar said.

“It will be also an honour for me to play in the new stadium and I am very thankful for the opportunity to see Australia and its culture.

“The club has big aims for next season and I will work hard to achieve these with my new team-mates.”

Lopar joins compatriot Pirmin Schwegler as a new signing at Western Sydney as Markus Babbel starts to reshape his squad following this season’s eighth-place finish.
