Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today announced the signing of defender Daniel Georgievski for the next two Hyundai A-League seasons.
Markus Babbel’s rebuild of his Western Sydney Wanderers squad has landed its first piece, with the club confirming the signing of Daniel Georgieski on Friday.
Georgievski, who was released by the Newcastle Jets following the end of their Hyundai A-League 2018/19 Season, has inked a two-year deal with the Wanderers.
It’s a return home for the 31-year-old, who was born in the region and played his youth football with Blacktown Demons and Marconi Stallions.
“After 13 years of being away from home, it’s a bit weird returning to the Western Sydney region. It’s changed a lot and I’m really looking forward to the adventure coming up,” Georgievski told the Wanderers’ official website.
“Hopefully I bring back what the Wanderers had before they left Wanderland and for me personally, I want to help the team get back to the top and be Champions, nothing less.”
A Macedonian international, Georgievski played eight seasons in Europe for Croatian club HNK Šibenik and Bucharest side Steaua București.
He returned to Australia with Melbourne Victory ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 Season, helping the club win the Championship-Premiership double in his first season.

Georgievski also [icked up an FFA Cup winners medal during his three seasons in Melbourne.
The versatile defender then spent the last two seasons with the Jets, winning the Joe Marston Medal as man-of-the-match in the club’s 2018 Grand Final defeat against Victory.
Now with his Wanderers future confirmed, Georgivski said he was looking forward to the big challenges ahead at the club as they get set to move into their new state-of-the-art home ground at Bankwest Stadium.

“When I heard all these things coming up for the Wanderers – the opening of the new training facility, the brand new stadium and the club’s match against Leeds it made me even more excited,” Georgivski said.
“The new training facility looks amazing and I’ve been shown around it, I’m really happy for the club and to be part of the new facilities from the start.
“The stadium from what I’ve heard is one of the best in Australia, so to be part of the team to start there is exciting. I can’t wait to be on that pitch and give it a go.”
There is set to be big changes at the Wanderers next season, with imports Oriol Riera and Roly Bonevacia both confirming their departure from the club.
Babbel also revealed after the Wanderers final round defeat against Melbourne Victory that playmaker Alexander Baumjohann wouldn’t be re-signed for next season.
