Signing news: Three young Aussies join Western United FC

Three of Australia’s brightest young talents have all been confirmed as the latest additions to the Hyundai A-League’s newest franchise Western United FC.

In a huge statement of intent by the new club – which will enter the competition for the 2019/20 Season- Sebastian Pasquali, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos and Dylan Pierias have all signed for United, the club announced on Wednesday.

It takes the club’s roster to seven players, joining Greek marquee Panagiotis Kone, Caltex Socceroos defender Josh Risdon, Sydney FC youngster Aaron Calver and the versatile Connor Chapman.

“We are delighted to have captured three of Australian football’s brightest talents,” United assistant coach John Hutchinson said.

“John [Anastasiadis] and I have been united in our assessment of Seb, Stama and Dylan.”

Pasquali, 19, started his career at Melbourne Victory, starring in the club’s International Champions Cup clash against Italian giants Juventus in 2016.

His performance caught the eye of European scouts, with Dutch powerhouses Ajax signing Pasquali in 2017.

Pierias became the first player born in the 21st century to play in the Hyundai A-League when he debuted for Melbourne City against Brisbane Roar in February 2017 at just 16.

He is a versatile defender with national experience at the U/20 level and played his junior football in western Melbourne at Keilor Park Soccer Club.

Stamatelopoulos has played 16 Hyundai A-League matches for Adelaide United, scoring two goals since making his debut two years ago.

“In Seb’s case, already being part of European football’s greatest school in Ajax, we are excited to have Seb bringing his learnings and to push through to playing first team football and continuing his rise,” Hutchinson said.

“Stama [Stamatelopoulos] is a very exciting forward who has already tasted A-League football so we believe he will develop into a mainstay of our attacking third for many seasons to come.

“And in Dylan, we see a player who can slot into anywhere on right side of the pitch so versatility is a trait we want in all our players”.
