Signing news: O’Doherty headlines Wanderers regeneration

Western Sydney Wanderers have swooped to sign highly-rated 20-year-old Jordan O’Doherty as one of three young additions to their Hyundai A-League squad.

O’Doherty has inked a three-year deal after spending the first two seasons of his professional career with Adelaide United, where he played in 28 matches over two seasons with the club.

The talented midfielder says he’s excited to make a big impression.

“Coming to the Wanderers is a good opportunity for me to be somewhere for three years and really try to do the best I can in the Hyundai A-League,” O’Doherty said.

“I want to play in as many games as possible for the club and ultimately, I want to win trophies with the team.

“To be honest, I’ve always enjoyed watching the Wanderers members and fans more than any other in the league.

“They’ve brought a lot of excitement to the league and they’re the best in the league, so I’m looking forward to playing in front of them.”

O’Doherty will be joined at training by fellow youngsters Tass Mourdoukoutas, 19, and Tate Russell, 18.

The pair have both represented the club in the Foxtel Y-League and have each signed two-year contracts.

Centre-back Mourdoukoutas was looking forward to working with new head coach Markus Babbel, a former Bayern Munich and Liverpool player.

“A new coach means a fresh start and especially with the pre-season coming up, it’s a good time for us to try to impress him,” the teenager said.

“[Babbel] was a defender as well so there’s no better person for me to learn off.”
