Signing news: Norwegian international Thorsnes joins Canberra United

Heather Garriock has locked away a second signing for the Westfield W-League 2019/20 Season with the addition of Norway international Elise Thorsnes.

The 31-year-old striker, who has played over 100 times with the Norwegian team, last played for Canberra two seasons ago, scoring six goals in just nine games.

“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to play in Australia again,” Thorsnes told the club’s official website.

“I had a great time in Canberra when I played two years ago and I can’t wait to return and play alongside some of my former teammates again.

“Having played football around the world, I’ll just be looking to contribute my experience to the squad and help some of the younger players develop.”

Thorsnes made her debut for Norway in 2006 and has since competed in three FIFA Women’s World Cups in 2011, 2015 and 2019.

She joins Westfield Matildas defender Karly Roestbakken as the two players currently on United’s books for the upcoming campaign.

“We are delighted Elise has agreed to terms as a Guest Player this season, her experience, power and versatility will boost our squad immensely,” Garriock said.

“The Canberra fans saw Elise’s quality on show two seasons ago, and one thing for sure is, she loves to score, so we’re very excited to have her back.”
