Carl Robinson’s impressive recruitment drive at Newcastle Jets has continued with the signing of Wales international midfielder Joe Ledley until the end of the season.
After securing Hyundai A-League Championship-winner Bernie Ibini on Monday, the Jets have added Ledley until the end of the 2019/20 Season, while Matthew Ridenton has been released.
The 33-year-old joins the Jets after his short-term contract with English Championship outfit Charlton Athletic ended last month.
“I’ve come here to play, and I know I’ll have to be at my best to earn a spot in the starting eleven here in Newcastle,” Ledley said.
“I’ve only been to Australia once before, for a pre-season tour with Celtic back in 2011, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge of the Hyundai A-League.
“The opportunity to work under Carl [Robinson] is one that I’m also looking forward to, we crossed paths in a few Wales camps when I was a youngster and to have the chance to link up with him again is exciting.”

Robinson knows Ledley’s talent well having played together for the Wales national team, where the midfielder racked up 77 caps for the Dragons.
He played a key role in the Wales team’s sensational run to the Semi Finals at Euro 2016, playing in every match of the tournament.
Ledley started his career with Cardiff City and has also had stints at Celtic, Crystal Palace and Derby County before his short-term deal with Charlton.
“Joe’s record at club and international level speaks for itself, he’s a class player and to have him here at the Jets for the remainder of the season is great,” said Robinson.
“He’s the type of player who will really help our younger boys out, plus he’ll add a different dimension to our game and I think he’ll have a good impact.”
