The new Westfield W-League campaign begins with a blockbuster on Thursday night as the Sydney Derby lights up Marconi Stadium from 7:30pm (AEDT).
Former team-mates will face off with friendships put aside following some notable off-season movements between Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.
Here’s what some of the stars at the centre of the show had to say about the contest ahead of kick-off!

Teresa Polias – Sydney FC
“It’s good to start with the derby. We normally wait a few rounds before we hit a derby but coming up against Western Sydney first round will be very interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever played against some of those girls so I think it’s going to be strange looking at them in the tunnel in the other colours. Hopefully we’ll have a lot of viewers.”
Remy Siemsen – Western Sydney Wanderers
“A few of us have made the jump across to Western Sydney this season so I think it will be a super competitive match. Obviously it’s going to be different being on the other side of things but a derby is a derby. It’s going to be a big game and it’s the opener for the season so hopefully we can make it a really competitive match.”
Chloe Logarzo – Sydney FC
“It’s going to be the biggest game of the season in my opinion. Definitely losing a few players from our team last year [will make it feisty] so it’s going to be pretty much putting your shin pads on the front, and then the back, and getting ready for it.”
Sydney Miramontez – Western Sydney Wanderers
“I’ve heard nothing but great things about how competitive this league is. Fortunately I have a team-mate of mine in Lo’eau Labonta that’s over here and she really spoke highly of the Wanderers and the organisation as a whole. Having the opportunity to come here was no question for me.”
Lisa De Vanna – Sydney FC
“It’s going to be a good game. Wanderers have really matched up this year with recruiting some good players. Obviously we’ve recruited well so it’s going to be a good battle.”
