Tunisian international Salim Khelifi has signed a new two-year deal with Perth Glory, after an impressive start to life in Western Australia.
Khelifi joined Perth initially on a one-year deal in the off-season and has since stamped his spot in Ruben Zadkovich’s side – starting in each of the club’s eight games to begin the season.
The 28-year-old winger has been far and away one of the Glory’s most consistent players to begin the campaign, capping off his solid performances with his first assist in Perth’s 1-1 draw with Wellington Phoenix last Friday evening.
“Salim has been a real shining light with his professionalism and personality around the group,” said Zadkovich.
“His tactical understanding and versatility make him very valuable and his performances warranted reward.
“We are delighted to secure his services for the next couple of seasons.”
“Salim has proven to be a really positive addition to the club,” added Keogh, “and we look forward to continuing to work with him in the coming years.”
Prior to signing with Perth, Khelifi spent the majority of his career with Eintracht Braunschweig during their stint in the Bundesliga, along with stays at fellow German side Holstein Kiel and Swiss outfits FC Zurich and Lausanne-Sport.
Khelifi also has two-caps with the Tunisian national team, along with representing his native Switzerland at youth-team level.
Perth also confirmed the departure of Israeli striker Ben Azubel, who had his contract terminated in order to sign with Thai League 1 club BG Pathum United.
Azubel, who also joined in the off-season, made four starts and two substitute appearances in his short stint at the Glory.
“We would like to thank Ben for his efforts and wish him all the best in the next stage of his football journey,” said Keogh.
Glory have already been busy this transfer window, bringing in Socceroo striker Adam Taggart on a three-and-a-half year deal.
