Brisbane Roar have sealed a major transfer coup, luring CommBank Matildas winger Sharn Freier back to the club on loan from German side VfL Wolfsburg for the Ninja A-League 2025-26 campaign.
The 24-year-old is back in orange after sealing a move away from the club to Wolfsburg in January in a deal that netted the Roar a club-record women’s transfer fee.

Freier’s Wolfsburg move was scheduled for the end of the Ninja A-League 2025-26 campaign, but the rapid winger made only 11 league appearances for Brisbane Roar throughout the season due to a season-ending ankle injury.
Brisbane’s 2023-24 Player of the Year made her senior international debut for Australia off the back of her Ninja A-League form and represented the nation at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Upon her return to the Roar, Freier will look to get back to her brilliant best at her hometown club throughout the duration of her loan deal.
“I’m really happy to be back and pulling on the Brisbane Roar shirt again,” Freier said.
“Representing a club and fanbase who have always been there for me means so
much and I can’t wait get back to playing for them this season.”
Freier is the ninth new addition to the club’s 2025-26 roster following the arrival of Chloe Lincoln, Amali Kinsella, Daisy Brown, Kijah Stephenson, Kiera Meyers, Tahlia Franco, Ashlyn Miller, Kayla Hanson and Bente Jansen.
Roar head coach Alex Smith says he’s “beyond thrilled” to welcome Freier back to the club.
