Hat-tricks from Marko Jesic and Kale Bradbery have propelled the Newcastle Jets to a 7-0 demolition of the Australian Institute of Sport in their Round 5 National Youth League clash at Wanderers Oval, Newcastle on Saturday morning.
Andrew Hoole opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Jesic scored three sparkling goals in 13 minutes, with a Bradbery strike taking the Jets to a 5-0 lead at half-time.
Jesic was replaced early in the second half but Bradbery took over up front, scoring from the penalty spot in the 50th minute and producing a great solo goal to seal an emphatic victory.
The win lifts the Jets into second place on the NYL ladder on 10 points while the AIS remain without a win at the bottom.
The match began in cool overcast conditions and the home side had a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the fifth minute when live-wire midfielder Bobby Russell pounced on a defensive lapse from the AIS defence and scooted into the box.
He squared the ball to unmarked striker Stevan Ilic who blazed his shot over the crossbar from just 15 yards out.
The Jets went close again 10 minutes later when Jesic just curled his 25-metre free-kick wide of the near post.
The home side duly hit the front in the 17th minute with a beautifully constructed goal to Hoole.
Left back Luke Remington slid a lovely through ball for Michael Kantarovski who took it to the by-line before squaring to Russell in front of goal.
He pushed the ball on to Hoole who made no mistake from point-blank range.
The Jets doubled their advantage just three minutes later when Jesic took the ball on the edge of the area, turned his man, and fired a vicious shot inside the far corner.
Jesic grabbed his second in spectacular style when Russell floated a delightful cross from the right wing for Jesic to meet it at the back post with a lovely leaping volley that saw the ball fly into the roof of the net to make it 3-0 after 23 minutes.
Bradbery made it 4-0 in the 25th minute when he was played in behind the AIS defence with a clever ball from Michael Finlayson and he made no mistake calmly slotting the ball past goalkeeper Andre Jannese.
Jesic completed his hat-trick just after the half-hour mark when Remington and Bradbery played a nice one-two down the left wing before Remington crossed into the box for Jesic, who had enough time to steady and guide his shot inside the far post.
Jesic and Bradbery both had chances to add to their tally but fired their shots at an open goal wide and they had to be content with their side taking a 5-0 lead into the half-time break.
Jannese pulled off two great saved to deny Bradbery early in the second half.
The first was a finger-tip effort to push the ball around the post after the Jets winger fired an angled shot from 15 metres out.
The second a fine horizontal effort when Bradbery had been awarded a penalty after being pulled down in the box by Jeremy Tshongo.
However the linesman ruled Jannese had moved off his line and referee Adam Gehrig ordered the penalty to be re-taken.
Bradbery sent the AIS custodian the wrong way with his second attempt to make it 6-0 after 51 minutes.
The AIS were reduced to 10 men midway through the second half when Brendan Gonano was shown his second yellow card for a tackle from behind on Finlayson.
The visitors did well to rally but they were unable to deny Bradbery nabbing his hat-trick in the 78th minute when he took the ball 35 out and weaved his way between two defenders before firing a shot past Jannese and into the corner of the net for a 7-0 lead.
Ilic could have made it eight when he was put one-on-one with Jannese but he fired his shot right into the hands of the AIS goalkeeper who did well to hold onto the ball.
