The Western Sydney Wanderers today announced the loan signing of Seattle Reign captain Keelin Winters for the Westfield W-League 2014/15 season.
Fresh off leading her National Women’s Soccer League club to the final, Winters flies into Australia tomorrow, Wednesday 10 September, and will be available for selection in the Red & Black’s opening match of the season against Premiers Canberra United.
Daughter of two-time NBA All Star Brian Winters, the defensive midfielder captained the USA to victory in the U20 World Cup in 2008 and will add experience and steely resolve to the Wanderers’ youthful squad.
Having won the West Coast Conference Player of the Year in her final college season (2010) and Womens Pro Soccer Rookie of the Year in 2011, Western Sydney Wanderers will be Keelin’s second club outside of the USA after playing for FFC Turbine Potsdam in the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League.
Western Sydney Wanderers Head Coach said that Winters’ inclusion is a boost for the Westfield W-League.
“To have a player of Keelin’s quality playing week-in and week-out in Australia will be a great boost to our team and also to the league as a whole,” said Boardman.
“We’re delighted to have Winters on board as she adds quality to the team and will aid the development of our younger players.”
Winters joins Hannah Beard as the Red & Black’s second foreign signing with room in the roster for one more.
The Western Sydney Wanderers kick-off their Westfield W-League season this Sunday 14 September when they take on Canberra United at Campbelltown Stadium with kick-off at 3pm.
