Brisbane Roar are seeking to snap a seven-game winless streak while Western Sydney Wanderers are looking to quickly move on from a heavy defeat when the teams square off in Redcliffe on Saturday night.
Golgol Mebrahtu’s stoppage-time strike ensured the Queenslanders did not leave the Hunter empty-handed following a 1-1 draw against the Wellington Phoenix in their last outing – but winning is becoming a distance memory for the Queenslanders, having not taken a three-point haul since February 5.
Warren Moon’s side were looking up the ladder after a 5-2 triumph over Melbourne Victory made it four straight wins, but four draws and three defeats since has seen the Roar slide from their position as Premiership contenders down into eighth place.
However, Brisbane still sit only three points outside the coveted top-six spots with a game in hand over most of their Finals Series rivals, and they will aim to take advantage as Carl Robinson’s men have their own issues to overcome after being turned over in a 4-1 mauling by Melbourne City last Friday.
That stumbling block proved to be a reality check for Western Sydney, halting a three-game winning stretch that had propelled Wanderers into the race for the Premiers Plate.
Now in fifth place, the Red and Black head to Moreton Daily Stadium aiming to get back on track and maintain their pursuit of the A-League’s frontrunners as a bumper Gameweek 15 picks up speed.
