Wellington Phoenix attacker Dani Sanchez has signed a one-year deal which will keep him at the club until the end of next season.
The Spaniard, who joined the Phoenix after a spell with Scottish side Inverness CT, enjoyed a solid first season with the New Zealand club.
Sanchez made 25 appearances and scored five goals, including an impressive brace in Wellington’s 5-2 thrashing of the Newcastle Jets in December last year.
Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert said he felt Sanchez would be an even better player in the A-League next season.
“Dani showed he had real quality last season and it was just unfortunate that, at times, circumstances forced us to play him in what was possibly not his best position,” Herbert said.
“With the squad we are putting together I’m confident Dani will be able to play to his true potential.
“He is talented and has great vision.”
The Phoenix have signed 15 players for next season, and remain in negotiations with several others.
Phoenix general manager David Dome said he was thrilled to see Sanchez re-sign with the club, and is happy with the current squad.
“We are delighted to have secured Dani’s services for another year,” Dome said.
“He is a player who has shown he has the qualities needed for the A-League.
“We’ve been steadily working on the roster and it is progressing well.”
