Sydney FC’s dismal start to the Hyundai A-League season has received some positive news with impressive young defender Sebastian Ryall re-signing with the club on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old has penned a two-year extension with the Hyundai A-League champions that will keep him in the harbour city until the end of the 2013 season.
While the winless Sky Blues have struggled to get things right on the field in the first three weeks of the season, they look to have things sorted off the field with Ryall’s new deal hot on the heels of retaining strikers Alex Brosque and Mark Bridge.
“I am really happy to have my future sorted and that it is with Sydney FC,” Ryall said.
“The club has been great to me since I returned home in 2009. It is a very special time here at the moment and I want to be part of that and the club wanted me to be part of it to so I am really happy.”
“We have a great squad, great coaches and support staff and I have my family and friends with me every day which helps a lot.”
“I am focused on playing the best possible football I can for Sydney FC and hopefully we can get to the levels we did last season. The Hyundai A-League is a really tough competition and it tests you each and every week and I relish that.”
Ryall has built a reputation as one of the most impressive young defenders in the competition since making his debut for the Melbourne Victory in September 2007.
He made 24 appearances for the Victory, helping them win the title in 2009, before moving to Sydney and playing a key role in the club’s double title winning success last season.
Ryall has also worn the green and gold at junior level, amassing 16 caps for the Australian under-20 side.
“The re-signing of Sebastian is excellent news for Sydney FC. He is a Sydney junior, young, extremely talented and professional. All things that our club looks for in its players,” Sydney Vice-Chairman Scott Barlow said.
“We have secured an outstanding core of young players in the last few months and we believe they will continue to keep Sydney FC at the forefront of football in the region.”
“We also expect to announce further play re-signings in the coming weeks, bolstering our already impressive roster.”
Sydney will be looking to get their season back on track when they host the Central Coast Mariners at the SFS on Saturday night.
