Western United have secured a play-maker of diamond quality but there’s still room for another jewel in the club’s crown, according to Mark Rudan.
Alessandro Diamanti, 36, looks set to be appointed the club’s chief creative weapon after the Italian inked a one-year marquee deal on Thursday.
He is Western United’s third foreign player after Polish ‘keeper Filip Kurto and Greek maestro Panagiotis Kone, who featured alongside Diamanti at Serie A clubs Brescia and Bologna.

Diamanti’s arrival has made waves but Western United’s business is not done yet, and in Thursday’s press conference coach Rudan appeared to suggest that an international forward might be next on the club’s hit list.
“We’ve still got a couple of spots to fill and we’ll take our time and make sure we get the right one,” Rudan said of the club’s next potential overseas signing.
“We waited a long time for Diamanti. We know what we want, we know what sort of game style we want.
“You can go and get the best striker in the world but if somebody’s not providing him with service there’s no point.
“We’ve got Diamanti now, that can provide those kinds of balls to strikers. We’ve got Kone who can pull the strings as well.”
Scott McDonald (35) and Apostolos Stamatelopoulos (20) are currently the only two out-and-out number nines on the Western United roster.
