Round 9 preview: Western Sydney Wanderers v Perth Glory

Western Sydney Wanderers and Perth Glory will get Round 9 of the 2020/21 Westfield W-League campaign underway when they meet at Marconi Stadium on Thursday night.

The fixture pits the league’s bottom two sides against each other, with the Wanderers on four points after seven games and Perth on one point, however the Western Australian side has played just three games to date this season.

Glory last played a Westfield W-League fixture on Sunday, January 24: a 1-1 draw with Canberra United. Alex Epakis’ side return to action almost three weeks later intent on capitalising on their many games in hand to surge up the Westfield W-League table with a string of positive results.

The Wanderers are winless in five games under Dean Heffernan. Last time out the Red and Black succumbed to a 2-1 loss to Brisbane Roar, denied a point late in the game by a phenomenal save from Roar ‘keeper Morgan Aquino which denied Leena Khamis and the Wanderers a near-certain equaliser in the 96th minute of play.

A fixture against Perth presents the perfect opportunity for Heffernan’s side to break the winless streak, but after Glory’s considerable break in play the bottom-placed side will be raring to go come kick-off at Marconi Stadium.
