Round 9 preview: Canberra United vs Western Sydney Wanderers

Canberra United host Western Sydney Wanderers at Viking Park on Saturday, January 30 in an early Round 9 contest presenting the Green Machine the chance to go top of the Westfield W-League table.

Canberra remain unbeaten in the 2020/21 campaign with two wins and two draws. The Wanderers, meanwhile, are flailing near the bottom of the table with just one win and three defeats from four games to start the season.

The Red and Black fell to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Newcastle Jets in Round 5; the deflating defeat has the Wanderers just one slot off the bottom of the table and Dean Heffernan’s side will be eager to avoid three losses on the bounce with a positive result at Viking Park.

Canberra drew 1-1 with Perth Glory in Round 5, with a late flurry of action seeing both goals scored within a minute of each other with time ticking away toward full time. Star striker Michelle Heyman is hunting a fifth goal of the campaign after going goalless in two consecutive games.
