Buoyed by their recent mauling of Sydney FC, the unbeaten Brisbane Roar steam into Round 9 eyeing five successive Westfield W-League victories when they host bottom-placed Perth Glory at Lions Stadium on Sunday evening.
Brisbane hammered the league-leading Sky Blues in Round 8, winning 4-1 to end the six-game winning streak accrued by Sydney FC, leaving the Roar as the only unbeaten side remaining in the 2020/21 Westfield W-League campaign
Brisbane’s season has so far been split in half: four draws to begin the campaign preceded four wins as Westfield Matildas attacker Emily Gielnik burst into life, leading an increasingly ruthless Roar attack as Jake Goodship’s side surged into Premiers Plate contention.
Perth, meanwhile, have played just four games to date in the 2020/21 Westfield W-League season. Alex Epakis’ side have one point on the board but with a considerable amount of games in hand can rifle up the table if the wins start to come for the Western Australian side.
The Glory ended the 2019/20 Westfield W-League campaign as one of the form sides of the competition, winning three of their last five games to round out a season which only got better as it progressed. There’s every chance of an even stronger resurgence if Perth can click into gear earlier in the current season – beginning with a positive result against the Roar.
