Brisbane Roar will be desperate to bounce back from a unexpected hammering last week when they host fellow finals contenders Adelaide United at Lions FC Stadium on Friday.
Jake Goodship’s side had closed the gap on leaders Sydney FC after following up four straight draws to open the season with a five-game winning streak, until Canberra United kept their own post-season hopes alive by serving up a 4-1 thumping in the ACT.
The Queenslanders’ first loss of the campaign means that any points dropped against the third-placed Reds would hand the title to the Sky Blues during their bye week, and the South Australian outfit have plenty of incentive to fight for a third consecutive win.
Adelaide have never finished in the competition’s top four and thus never ventured to the Finals Series. Three points in Richlands would take the Reds a major step closer to making it a historic campaign in Adrian Stenta’s first season at the helm.
