Football fans in Rooty Hill have had their chance to get involved in the discussion on the new Hyundai A-League club for Sydney.

The latest fan forum took place at Rooty Hill RSL, where Head of A-League Lyall Gorman, Fox Sports commentator Mark Rudan and Federal Member for Chifley Ed Husic met with more than 100 local supporters to talk about important aspects of the new club, including the name, colours and staff for the new club.

On the night, there seemed a preference for red, black and white colours, Parramatta Stadium as the home ground, to host games on Saturday nights.

Questions for the forum included: should the club name have West or Western in it? Not one person in the audience voted for a name without West/Western Sydney. Also, 80 per cent of the audience voted for a more traditional football name for the club.

Here are a few comments from social media…

Mitar Vitorovich: “Sporting Western Sydney F.C please mention the name pleasssssssse”

Marko Bogicevic: “For coach: look for somebody like Van’t’Schip. He transformed the Heart into a top 5 team within 2 years, and they’re fairly set for the next few years with the youth that he brought in.”

Sam Lane: “WESTERN SYDNEY ATHLETIC! white strip. we will take the league by storm :)”

Sam Green: “WESTERN SYDNEY ATHLETIC!!!! White strip like real madrids! At parramatta stadium! The west will rise!!! “

Markus Staveley: “You have too many large towns to name the club eg Parramatta or Blackton Penrith. We need to symbolise the area and Western Suburbs will do that!”

Nic Otter: “West Sydney Wanderers or Western Wanderers has to be it.. Just works on so many levels.”

Marko Bogicevic: “I think it should be United, since Sydney is FC, so west sydney should be united.”

Marty Allen-Scott: “I would think you are uniting the west. So united makes sense….”

Nathan Blume: “Why not just revive the Rovers name. Probably the best I have heard!”

Jack Nani Arthur: “Parra stadium is one of those grounds that are small but can get big crowds which means a great atmosphere.”

Melinda Green: “I think the clubs get some say in when they hold games, Chris: Mariners did a poll last season and got 12/13 Saturday night home games this season, with the other 1 being big wednesday.”

Kyle Stockham: “Parramatta Stadium. It’s a central location for West Sydney for driving and catching public transport. Also, the atmosphere would be crazy!”

Preston Kurt Shehadie: “Parra sat night. You can’t share the grounds around every week, maybe on community rounds etc. Need to build a fortress.”

@Mechawombat: “Our coach needs to be different. Why not look towards the americas for a coach?”

@ZePrawnAssassin: “Imported. Need someone with experience. But not a 2nd rate Englishman.”

@ChipsRafferty: “Manchester United West it is. Next item, please.”

@willbrownsydney: “please don’t use illiteration in team name e.g. Western Wildcats/Wolves. Too American.”

@Capt_Grumpy: “Penrith & Campbelltown are at the extremes of the metro area. Parra offers the more central location, despite parking issues.”
