His name is synonymous with the next generation of Socceroos stars, but can anybody actually remember 21-year-old Tom Rogic playing in the Hyundai A-League?
After a yearlong stint in Scotland with Celtic, Tom Rogic returns to Australia with the world on his shoulders, and a World Cup on the horizon. Despite only playing 36 professional matches in club colours, the prodigious talent has been hailed as our next superstar.
In his return to familiar waters, Rogic-s first match will be against the team he last faced in the Hyundai A-league – Sydney FC.
It was on December 27, 2012 that Rogic last played in Australia, a night that Rogic would himself like to forget, after being sent off for the Central Coast Mariners due to a reckless challenge on Rhyan Grant in a 1-nil reverse at Allianz Stadium.
Whilst his career may be brief, the highlight reel is long, with the attacking midfielder having netted 5 times for Central Coast in only 24 matches.
The highlight of those goals, and the night where he rose to national prominence, was against, you guessed it, Sydney FC, where he netted a brace in the 7-2 demolition win at Bluetongue Stadium.
Mariners fans won-t have to wait long to welcome their former prodigy, with the Victory visiting Bluetongue Stadium on February 8.
But first, he will line up on Australia Day, against Sydney FC, where anything is possible.
