In a thrilling final in Moscow, Les Bleus proved too strong for a brave Croatia, emerging 4-2 winners to lift the FIFA World Cup™ for the second time in the nation’s history.

For Bautheac, who watched the match with some friends and a huge throng of compatriots at a local bar, it was an important win for the country which sparked jubilant scenes back in his homeland.
France were in the same group as the Caltex Socceroos, needing a penalty and an own goal to win 2-1 in Kazan in the opening match of Group C.

“It was not a good World Cup for us but we won it. We are very happy,” Bautheac said.
“For France, [we’re] a good team but when I watched the first game against Australia I thought it would be difficult to win the World Cup. “But France was more experienced than Croatia in the final and we won.
Bautheac added: “For French people it was an important game because football in France it’s the best sport.
“Everyone watches football, and yesterday was a very good fiesta for us. After the game I said ‘now I have to sleep because I haven’t slept too much’.”
