Brisbane Roar have defeated an under-strength Sydney FC 2-0 in a behind-closed-doors match at the Sky Blues’ Macquarie University training facility on Saturday.
In the Roar’s final pre-season game against Hyundai A-League opposition before their season openner against Melbourne City on October 6, first-half goals to Italian marquee Massimo Maccarone and in-form attacker Petros Skapetis secured the win.
None of the Sky Blues starting XI from their Westfield FFA Cup quarter final win on Wednesday night took part in the match, but it will give John Aloisi’s squad a confidence boost ahead of the new season.
Maccarone was once again a standout for Roar, adding to his pre-season goal tally, which now stands at five.
Skapetis also hit the back of the net to score six goals since joining the club.
The match was also extra special for Roar recruit Corey Gameiro, who made a successful comeback from injury with a 20-minute cameo late on.
