Brisbane Roar super-sub Brett Holman revealed his dramatic winner against Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday night was hatched while watching from the sideline.
The 32-year-old made the difference off the bench in Roar’s 2-1 win, dashing through the heart of the 10-man Wanderers and unleashing a long-range effort which burst through the hands of Vedran Janjetovic.

“I said it to Tommy [Oar] actually when we were warming up that it was opening up a little bit when we were coming through [the middle],” Holman told Fox Sports.
“Sometimes you’ve just got to let go.
“Luckily for me the ‘keeper has made a mistake but if you don’t try you will never know what could happen and obviously it’s worked out well for me.”
Holman’s match-winning turn ended a “tough” two-month injury layoff for the 63-time Caltex Socceroo, a frustrating spell which Holman says has been eased by the togetherness of the Roar squad.
“What I’ve experienced in the last six months has been fantastic,” he said.
“It’s the first time I’ve really been out for my whole career which has been unfortunate because I’ve come back to Australia.
“But the physios and the medical staff have been top notch and I’m just happy to be back on the pitch.”
