Roar make it three straight after edging City

An early strike from Jamie Maclaren has helped Brisbane Roar to a third consecutive win as they edged Melbourne City 1-0 at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

Both sides started brightly but it was the hosts who took an early lead with Maclaren pouncing on a loose ball to net his second goal of the season.

City grew into the contest and enjoyed large spells of possession in the opening stanza but failed to seriously threaten a well-organised Brisbane defence.

The game became stretched in the second half as City chased an equaliser but it was the Roar who looked the more threatening on the counter with Jamie Maclaren wasting a number of chances to seal the win.

City continued to push in the final stages but a resolute Brisbane held firm to record a thoroughly deserved victory.

A neat interchange between Thomas Broich and Brett Holman put Tommy Oar in behind with the winger’s touch around Bouzanis falling to Maclaren who buried the ball into an empty net.
