Brisbane Roar will face a fired-up Perth Glory outfit at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday, with the men from the west yet to get a win at Brisbane’s iconic sporting venue.
In the six encounters between the two sides at Suncorp, Brisbane has recorded four wins and two draws.
The home side will be defending a five game unbeaten run and aiming to back up last weekend’s emphatic 3-0 win over Newcastle in Newcastle.
Despite now being without three Qantas Young Socceroos, midfield duo Matt McKay and Massimo Murdocca along with Danny Tiatto due to injury, coach Frank Farina said his side would continue to play attractive, attacking football.
“We’ll continue to play in the same manner we always have,” he said.
“That’s the test of a good team and a good squad. Where we’re sitting at the moment is indicative that we are a good squad.”
“We’ve got options in Isaka Cernak, Adam Sarota and David Dodd who can come in. We do have options in the midfield.”
This week’s match-up will be no walk-in-the-park for Farina and his men especially considering the Glory’s impressive off-season recruiting which has netted plenty of Qanats Socceroo experience.
Roar captain Craig Moore will go head-to-head with his Qantas Socceroos teammate Mile Sterjovksi in a battle which will go a long way towards determining the winner of the game.
At the other end of the field, Perth’s Chris Coyne will look to put his name firmly on national team coach Pim Verbeek’s radar with a strong performance at the back.
Moore and Coyne could find themselves battling for the same spot in Verbeek’s squad to head for South Africa for the FIFA World Cup next year.
The past five meetings between the Roar and Glory have yielded a staggering 25 goals, the last of which a 4-2 triumph for the Roar at home in January.
