Queensland Roar has secured the services of former Rangers midfielder Charlie Miller just a day after announcing former striker Reinaldo would be returning to the club.

Miller, who once represented Scotland in 2001, has committed to Queensland for the next two Hyundai A-League seasons after a 16-year European career.

“First and foremost Charlie’s a very good player,” Roar coach Frank Farina said at a press conference on Friday.

“Apart from Charlie’s ability on the park I think his experience off it was the thing that attracted me and I’m just very happy that he’s agreed with terms and will play for the Roar for the next two years.”

Miller played with Rangers between 1993 and 1999 and was involved in five Scottish premierships in his time there.

The 32-year-old also claimed two Scottish FA Cup titles and two Scottish League Cup titles with the Glasgow club.

Yet despite the enormous amount of success he enjoyed with Rangers in the 1990s, Miller maintains he is desperate for some more silverware.

“I spoke to Frank and it was great. He’s ambitious, he wants to win. I’m 32 and I still want to win myself,” he said.

“I like to win trophies and I think we’ve got a great bunch of boys here.”

Farina is optimistic that Miller will competently fill the void left by Brazilian Marcinho in the midfield and is confident he will combine well with fellow midfielders and strikers.

“Something that we haven’t had in my time with the club is a genuine out-and-out playmaker who can create opportunities and it’s good to have that string to our bow now,” the Roar coach said.

After leaving Rangers, Miller had stints with English clubs Leicester City and Watford, Scottish team Dundee United, Norwegian outfit SK Brann and most recently Lierse SK in Belgium.
