Return of Keogh and Castro double act has Perth Glory coach smiling

The deadly duo of Andy Keogh and Diego Castro was back at its very best as the pair spearheaded Thursday night’s 2-1 for Perth Glory over Brisbane Roar.

Two goals in two minutes late in the second half provided Perth Glory with the perfect Christmas gift at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

The pair’s combination was all class, scoring and setting up each other for both goals.

Massimo Maccarone’s superb first half goal looked to have Roar heading towards all three points until Glory’s big guns stole the show inside the last ten minutes.

Returning skipper Keogh and Spanish superstar Castro both found the net to make it back-to-back wins for Glory and consolidate their spot in the Hyundai A-League top six.

Glory coach Kenny Lowe was in buoyant mood after the game, telling Fox Sports the return of experienced star players was key to the win.

“The big boys stood up, the young boys worked their socks off and then when you get a bit of quality back in Keogh and Castro, we looked dangerous.

“In the first half we didn’t back ourselves but in the second half we played a little earlier into Keogh, he held it up and brought ‘Cas'[Diego Castro] in, and that let us play a little higher up the park.

“Any team that’s got leaders like Cas, like Xavi [Torres], Andy Keogh, like [Shane] Lowry, like Andreu, people draw from that energy and their standards are so high.”

Lowe joked Keogh’s assist for Castro was more likely an attempted shot. “I said to him, there’s no way you’re passing in the six-yard box!”

Glory next face Sydney FC on Dec 30 as the Summer Football Festival continues.
