Resurgent Jets stun Glory in Perth

Newcastle Jets have climbed off the bottom of the ladder with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Perth Glory at nib Stadium on Saturday night.

All three goals were scored in an action-packed first half as the under-pressure Jets overcame an early deficit to secure their first win in eight matches.

Perth set an expected course for the match inside seven minutes when Nebojsa Marinkovic curled home a classy opener from the edge of the area.

Any thoughts of a routine victory were soon scuppered though as Andrew Hoole clinically restored parity with a cool left-footed finish, before Milan Smiljanic’s own-goal gifted the visitors a deserved lead at the break.

A combination of Newcastle wastefulness and fine goalkeeping from Liam Reddy ensured the match remained alive until the end, but Mark Jones’ side saw out the second half to sew up their second win of the season.
