Brisbane Roar’s clash with Central Coast Mariners in the 2011 Grand Final may long be remembered as the most dramatic in Hyundai A-League history.
In a match full of defining moments, Erik Paartalu’s towering header in the 120th minute stands alone.
The midfielder crashed home Thomas Broich’s in-swinging corner to complete a miraculous Roar recovery and send 50,000 fans at Suncorp Stadium into ecstasy.
Brisbane were on the canvass fewer than five minutes earlier, trailing 2-0 to extra-time goals from Adam Kwasnik and Oliver Bozanic.
But a cool Henrique finish in the 117th minute set the scene for Paartalu to write himself into Hyundai A-League folklore.
The midfielder went on to convert in the home side’s penalty shootout triumph as Henrique sealed the club’s inaugural championship.
