Reds trial Babalj as Amor eyes new signings

Adelaide United have revealed their former striker Eli Babalj is on trial at the club after the 24-year-old’s brief stint training with Western Sydney Wanderers.

Babalj, currently a free agent, made five appearances for the Reds last season before rupturing his ACL at Suncorp Stadium this time last year.

The former Melbourne Heart forward who has been capped by Australia undertook his rehabilitation in Belgium and trialled with Wanderers earlier this month in a bid to re-launch his career.

Adelaide have room to sign at least one striker during the January transfer window after the club parted ways with Spaniard Sergi Guardiola this week.

Coach Gui Amor confirmed the ninth-placed Reds would be looking to strengthen their squad over the next week as they look to make up ground on the top six.

“The coaching staff and I are in constant contact with our General Manager of Football, Ante Kovacevic, and we speak every day about the players we are wanting to bring into the club for the rest of the season.

“The transfer window is open until 1 February, we have room in the team, and we are confident of signing players that fit our football and that have the quality we need,” said Amor.
