Marco Kurz has revealed Danish star Johan Absalonsen and Slovenian striker Dzengis Cavusevic are both fit to start in Friday’s crucial clash with Melbourne City.
After showing his class with a number of impressive early season performances, Absalonsen has struggled with injuries throughout the campaign and has managed just six games for the Reds.
But after a brief appearance off the bench in Adelaide’s loss to Roar a fortnight ago, Kurz is confident the Dane is ready to play from the outset.
“The training this week was very intense,” Kurz told reporters on Thursday.
“Because the players are fighting for a position in the 18-player squad.
“It was not easy for me to name the players for the squad and also for the final squad tomorrow.
“I’m happy that after two weeks of intense training Johan (Absalonsen) is fitter than before, Džengis (Čavušević) is ready after the suspension and now I have more options.”
The Sixth-placed Reds will be out to snap a two-game losing streak when they host third-placed City at Coopers Stadium.
Marco Kurz’s side hold a three-point advantage over seventh-placed Glory but can move up to fifth if they secure maximum points on Friday.
Meanwhile, City, coming off three-straight losses, will be boosted by the return of central defender Bart Schenkeveld following suspension.
Warren Joyce’s side have won both meetings between the teams this season and recorded a 5-0 victory in their last clash back in January.
