Jordy Thomassen can’t wait to hit the ground running in the Hyundai A-League having turned down the opportunity to remain in Europe.
Thomassen, 25, joined the Reds on loan from Eredivisie outfit De Graafschap yesterday, providing significant ammunition for Marco Kurz’s front line.
The striker looks set to occupy the number nine position which has been shared by Ken Illso, Ben Halloran and George Blackwood this season in the absence of injured forward Baba Diawara.
“I’m very excited to have joined Adelaide United for the rest of the A-League season,” Thomassen told the club’s official website.
“The team is in a good position in the league and, from the games that I have watched, I can see it is playing some quality football.

“Coming to Australia is a big opportunity for me and I am fit and ready to give 100 per cent to my new team.
“I had the option to remain in Europe with other clubs, but after speaking with the club and also Marco Kurz, the football and direction of the team is something I wanted to be part of.”
Adelaide United Director of Football Aurelio Vidmar said the ‘hungry’ Thomassen offers a versatile threat to the Reds as they aim to cement their top six position.
“Jordy is a young striker who is very strong,” Vidmar told the club’s official website.
“He is an aerial threat being 189cm tall but is also comfortable striking the ball with both feet.
“At just 25, Jordy is a hungry and determined footballer who has been doing well in the Netherlands over the last few seasons.”
