Adelaide United FC has stated it will not allow Steven Lustica to leave the club after the midfielder had sought an immediate move to Brisbane Roar.
Having arrived in Adelaide from Croatian club Hajduk Split, Lustica signed a year long deal with the Reds for the current Hyundai A-League campaign.
Adelaide United revealed Lustica was recently offered a one year contract extension, something the club states the 22-year-old verbally agreed to.
It is understood that Lustica has since had an approach from Brisbane Roar, which is where he spent the second half of last season.
According to the statement released by Adelaide United, Lustica had sought to terminate his current contract to join the league leaders.
However, with the January transfer window coming to a close on February 5, the Reds insist the former Gold Coast United player is required for the rest of the season and that they will not release him to the Roar.
“This situation is totally different to a transfer based matter where club and player alike benefit from a potential move,” the Adelaide United statement said.
“The club will continue to seek to resolve the matter with the player and his agent and until that time there will be no further comment on the matter.”
