Adelaide United boss Marco Kurz believes his side has long been threatening to rack up a big score in the Hyundai A-League after crushing Newcastle Jets on Friday night.
Everything the Reds did at Coopers Stadium turned to goals, running out comfortable 5-2 winners to boost their Finals Series hopes.
While they have struggled to score consistently all season, Adelaide were rewarded for their ruthlessness in front of goal, with Daniel Adlung (two), Ryan Kitto, Johan Absalonsen and Dzengis Cavusevic all getting on the scoresheet.
“I think we scored all the goals from all our chances,” a delighted Kurz said.
“In the last games we create a lot of chances but we didn’t score.
“Also after the 2-1 we stayed calm and we wait for the right moment and we score very good goals.”
It wasn’t all smiles for the German coach though, with Kurz lamenting the way his side was “lazy” to concede late on with the Jets down to 10 men.
But it was the only negative on a memorable night for the Reds and their fans, who have opened up a five-point gap to seventh spot with four games of Harmony Round still to play.
“[It’s] a big congratulations to the whole squad. Not to the players only on the field, not on the bench, also the players on the stage and the young players,” Kurz said.
“Because we have now a big challenge in every training session. Everyone must improve and maybe today is the result of all players back in our team.
“It’s good to know now I have now more options to find the right line up for every game.”
While both Melbourne clubs have a game in hand, Adelaide are just one point behind City (fourth) and two adrift of Victory (third) in the race for a top-four spot.
The Reds are at home again in Round 25, taking on Wellington Phoenix at Coopers Stadium on Good Friday.
