Adelaide United will be represented by Eugene Galekovic and Marcelo Carrusca who-ve been voted by the public into the Foxtel A-League All Stars squad to face Juventus in Sydney on August 10.
With Adelaide United coach Josep Gombau masterminding the Foxtel A-League All Stars this year, there-s a strong Reds presence to the team.
Galekovic, 33, United-s goalkeeper and captain, had eight clean sheets and 82 saves in season 2013/14 of the Hyundai A-League which saw him take out his third Goalkeeper of the Year award.
His consistent form also led to him to be named in the Socceroo squad for Australia-s recent World Cup campaign in Brazil.
“It-s fantastic. Coming off such a good season last year and wanting to continue that momentum gained from the World Cup,” Galekovic said.
“It will be fantastic to actually get some game time against some of the best players in the world.”
Argentine playmaker Carrusca finds himself in the Foxtel A-League All Stars for the second year after his call up to face Manchester United in 2013.
Carrusca had a direct hand in 10 of the Reds- goals last season, scoring six and providing assists for the other four goals.
He had almost double as many key passes and through balls as the next-best Adelaide United player as he pulled the strings for the Reds in midfield.
Now, Carrusca is in line to mix it against Juventus- string of gifted players, who had 12 players called up for various nations at the World Cup in Brazil.
In the middle of the park the magical Andrea Pirlo and French rising star Paul Pogba, both key players for their respective nations at Brazil 2014, will provide stern opposition and a treat for the fans.
“I am looking forward to playing against the Serie A champions and some of the best players in the world,” Carrusca said.
“I want to thank the fans for voting for me and for giving me another chance to play.”
In a timely boost, the United duo will get a chance to tune-up for the Juventus match later this month. They are set to play for the Reds against La Liga side Malaga in the LFP World Challenge match at Adelaide Oval.
Of the 20-player Foxtel A-League All Stars squad, 16 come from fans- votes while the remaining four (4) wild card picks are left to the discretion of Gombau and his assistant coach Phil Moss.
The Foxtel A-League All Stars will meet Juventus at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on 10 August with the match to be broadcast live and exclusive on the Seven Network nationally.
