Adelaide United coach Guillermo Amor is refusing to get carried away, despite watching his side clinically dispatch the Phoenix 4-0 in Wellington to move to the top of the Hyundai A-League.
First-half goals from Dylan McGowan and Stefan Mauk gave the Reds comfort at the break and the game was ended as a contest when Bruce Djite netted a third shortly after half-time. Substitute Pablo Sanchez iced the cake in the dying moments with his sixth goal of the campaign.

“Today was a good day. It was a good day for us, for the team, for the players, for the group,” said Amor afterwards.
“We are very proud of our players because their fight and sacrifice was magnificent during the game, during training, during the last week. The players deserve top marks.”
“We must enjoy this (moment) and enjoy the game and enjoy the situation. Then we work more.”
“We go step by step. We go (forward) with calm and humility. We will enjoy the moment. The best moment in soccer is when you win. The moment is special.”
“We travel tomorrow, then we start the (new) week,” said Amor.
The victory also set a new club record of fourteen consecutive Hyundai A-League matches without defeat, but the likable Spaniard was quick to dismiss that as his side’s motivation.
“It was not the first target. We play the next game without thinking whether it’s twelve or thirteen or fourteen today. We want to win the game, but not for this (record).
“It’s because our situation is better if we win. We are not thinking if we win the next game, it will be fifteen (unbeaten). No. We win for the three points. That is the most important thing,” he said.
The Reds’ journey to the summit of the A-League is even more astonishing given the fact they were bottom of the ladder for five weeks early in the season, failing to win any of their first eight matches.
But Amor isn’t ready to start dreaming of silverware just yet.
“You imagine things, you dream sometimes. (But) this situation is because the group always thinks day by day, training by training and game by game.”
Adelaide United next host Melbourne City on Friday night.
